Sixteenth post: The journals of the Macquaries (1809-1822)

Lachlan Macquarie was a Scottish Highland officer, who later became Governor of New South Wales. The 'Journals of his Tours in New South Wales and Van Diemen's Land' contain multiple references to a world now lost, through the eyes of this British couple.

Here is a picture of their Gruline House, in the island of Mull:

Elizabeth died peacefully there, at the age of 56.
